Okay, what moves do you recomend then?

I'd reccomend a special sweeper, because thats how espeon's stats work out. I'd go for something like this:
Espeon@ EVs: 252 Sp.A, 252 Speed, 6HP Synchronize, Modest (or, if you must, Timid) Psychic HP (Special) ...
Woah, looks like Espeon doesn't have that many sweeping moves... You might add somehting like Psych Up and Batton Pass for those pesky DTers, and other stat-boosting tanks. You could also try Wish, though that works far better with Umbreon. With Espeon, you could use wish as a pseudo pass; wishing and then dieng and passing the effect on (I think wish works that way...). You could also go for special tank, with Light Screen, Attract, and Psychic... Just don't use physical moves.

Tyranitar makes an excellent physical sweeper, and a decent mixed sweeper. You have to chose which one you want - a physical sweeper or a mixed sweeper. A physical sweeper can focus all of its attention on physical moves - boosint its raw power a lot. Tyranitar has an extra treat when physical sweeper - Dragon Dance. A mixed sweeper has more veriaty, but each choice deals less damage. I personaly would go with a physical sweeper, such as follows: Tyranitar@Leftovers/Quick Claw Sand Stream, Adamant EVs: 252 atk, 252 HP/Def, 6 HP/Def/Sp.Def Dragon Dance Rock Slide Earthquake Return/HP (Physical)/Aerial Ace

Okay, what moves would you recomend if Tyranitar was a mixed sweeper?

Mixed sweeper T-Tar has such a huge selection of moves... and you can still use Dragon Dance, so basicly, take your pick:
Tyranitar@Leftovers/Quick Claw Nature: (Neutral nature) EVs: 252 Sp.A, 252 Atk, 6 HP Dragon Dance (Any physical move) (Any physical or special move) (Any physical or special move)
Physical Moves: Aerial Ace, HP (Physical), Earthquake, Return, Rock Slide
Special Moves: Crunch, HP (Special), Dragon Claw, Thunderbolt, Flamethrower, Ice Beam, Surf
I excluded Iron Tail, considering Steel moves are not a very good choice. Including that, though, Tyranitar has 12 different good sweeping type moves, and there are only 17 types. Pick and chose the ones you like, but try to get at least 1 STAB move.

Okay, thanks for that. What is a STAB move?

|
|
Post by SkinnyGreenMan on May 12, 2005 11:16:23 GMT -5
S ameT ypeA ttackB onusMeans, a move that matches a type that the pokemon has. For Gyarados, Water and Flying are STAB moves. The reason STAB moves are suggested is becase all STAB moves do 1.5 times as much damage. That means, if a pokemon with the same attack as Tyranitar used Rock Slide, but wasn't rock type, it would do Tyranitar would do 150% more damage. Say you have a Tyranitar and a Sandslash with the same attack stat. (Note: All attacks are applied to a slight bit of randomness, so you can't count on ALWAYS getting a specific amount of damage - just a lot more) Sandslash - Rock Slide - 100 damage Tyranitar - Rock Slide - 150 damage Just for STAB bonus. Hope I didn't confuse you too much .

can someone tell me the moves of salamence and when it learns them?

Well, since i'm too lazy to type in a whole list of moves again, i'll direct you to salemences pokedex entry in serebii.net. Go here: www.serebii.net/pokedex-rs/373.shtmlSalemence is generally used as one of three things: A Physical Sweeper, a Mixed Sweeper, or a Special Sweeper. Again, I strongly suggest the physical sweeper, due to the fact you can train it to maximize capibilities of physical moves, and the fact that its physical attack is higher then its special attack. Try this Salemence: Salemence@Leftovers / Focus Band Adamant / intimidate EVs: 252 Atk, 252 Speed, 6 Def / HP Dragon Dance - Egg Move Aerial Ace - (TM 40) Earthquake - (TM 26) Rock Slide - Move Tutor If you cannot get one of those moves, you can substitute Return, HP (physical), or Brick Break, if you must.

I thought STAB moves are 1.1 times power. I learned that back in Pokemon Stadium. Has it changed, or is one of us wrong?
