They didn't use rum. It kept him sane.

How can anyone like the end? It was Disney for crying out loud...... You go in there expecting a happily ever after, and they give it this tragic bit of unneccesary misery. It left me rather disillusioned, because most of the last movies I've seen and the books I've read have had similar endings, sometimes much worse, and I'd just like a HAPPY ENDING!!!! Is that too much to ask? Especially from Disney? Aw well. Personally I think Bootstrap should have ended up taking over the Dutchman. (Of course Will had to because they killed him, but I don't think they should have killed him.) I mean, if they wanted Bootstrap to stay on board anyway, why not have him run the thing? Norrington could have even done it, had he not died so soon. Perhaps they could have just put him in Will's position, which would have seen him dying honorably as well as severing his chances with Elizabeth and getting him out of the way. (If they were going to kill him anyway, why not do it that way?) And why...WHY did they kill of her father? That should just simply have never happened. It was unnecessary and just stunning to me. He's just not the type of character they should kill. What purpose did it serve? There were completely awesome parts, but things that just left me disillusioned as well. So there's my take on it. I'm going to stop ranting now .

I was so sad when Norrington died!! That was awful!! I had just started liking him again. The ending defiantly needed work. I agree with Laura about Bootstrap being Capitan, that would have been nice, but if that happened, then Will wouldn't have kept his promise to kill Davey Jones. I also don't see why Will had to cut out his heart?!?! that wasn't quite right. Davey Jones only cut his out because it was causing him pain, and Will's heart was doing just fine how it was. And if he has to be Capitan of the Dutchman, then why can't Elizabeth be on the ship with him? Will can't go on land but once every 10 years, but that doesn't mean Elizabeth can't see him while he's on his ship!!!! they didn't think it out all that well if you ask me.
