Just before naughtyelf quit runescape, he and I pooled our money to buy a santa hat. It cost 8mil then, but now santa hats are worth 22mil.
He got scammed out of the rares as we were climbing up (we got to the green mask). If we'd kept that, though, we'd have turned 8mil into 22mil.
The thing about the rares is the prices are on a permanent up-trend. If we got a bunch of people to invest together, we might be able to find the perfict time to hop in (when the construction skill came out, for example, the price of santa hats dropped to 4mil). It might be a bit out of the way for green gamers, but then again maybe not. I have something else planned in runescape to spend my money on, but once I'm done with that my focus will probably be to invest in a rare. Anyone from green games who wants to invest with me is welcome.
Post ideas on the rares market here.

Well one things for sure, I'm glad I bought a blue mask for 7mil way back! It has more than quadrupled in value since i bought it! (Worth 30mil now) Anyway, it would seem that the time to buy a rare is NOW. At the rate these things are going up in price, noone will be able to afford one except for the people who own rares!
My recommendation to green gamers is to sell off almost everything you have and buy a rare, ANY rare, asap. Also, although skills are important, it will be worth your while to begin centering your attention on making money to buy rares than to raise your skills. You can raise your skills anytime, but the rares are only going to be this price for a while. It will be worth it in the end, trust me on this. ;D
I think I might make a money making guide here pretty soon, keep an eye out for it.

Quite possibly your correct, however, I think the price may temporarily drop soon.
When contsruction came out, santas dropped to 4mil. People were selling to raise construction, and merchant-minded people were buying. Everyone was grabbing up the rares, so the price skyrocketed. But, what happens now that the price is suddenly high? Such violent moves almost certianly mean a bounce in the opposite direction, in this case: down.
In the long run the price will certianly surpass 22.5mil, but in the short run, I think it will go down.

I am kind of low on money right now but I will have a large sum of money after a while. If I ever get my large amount of money I think I could invest in a rare item. It depends on how much I would have to invest I guess.

well i dont really care about rare's that much, they're just things that go up in price, i like playing the game more then i like just making money, its supposed to be a fun game, not a game that everyone just tries to make the most money, i can live without being the richest player in runescape
and besides i'd rather have a d chain while they're down to 16mil

I'm too noobishly poor to invest, but I think rare items is half the fun of the game. Its a good reminder that the game actually has real time in it somewhere...
